With the win, Mizzou's five-match win streak is the second-longest active streak among Big 12 teams, trailing only Texas (10 straight). The win also gives the Tigers 18 on the season, matching their win total from a season ago with four matches remaining. Mizzou also improves to 8-3 at home this season with its only three losses coming against top 15 teams.
Freshman setter Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.) anchored a Tiger offense that was very productive in the match. She spread 51 assists (12.75 per set) and led a Mizzou offense that got at least six kills from six different players. Kreklow was one of the six players with six kills as she did so on .500 hitting. Aside from Klein, Mizzou's next-best weapon was freshman Lisa Henning (Blue Springs, Mo.), who posted a career-best 15 kills. Seniors Paola Ampudia (Cali, Colombia) and Catie Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) pitched in 12 and six kills, respectively, while junior Brittney Brimmage (East St. Louis, Ill.) added seven kills on .545 hitting.
Senior libero Caitlyn Vann (Muncie, Ind.) had a fine performance as she pulled in 20 digs in the match, good for her fourth match with at least 20 digs in her last five. Klein also finished with double-digit digs as she pulled in 12 for her sixth double-double of the season. Ampudia also posted a double-double as she pulled in 10 digs to go along with her 12 kills, good for her ninth of the season, tying her for the team lead.
After defeating No. 12 Iowa State last Saturday, the Tigers (18-8, 10-6 Big 12) came into the match against Texas Tech (3-22,1-15 Big 12) more determined than ever to continue their winning streak. However, throughout the first set, Mizzou appeared to be out of sync as the Red Raiders won the first set 23-25.
Throughout the second set, Mizzou played like a completely different team and claimed the set, 25-17. Henning led the Tigers with eight kills while Ampudia, fresh off of an AVCA National Player of the Week award, and Klein were behind her with three and five kills, respectively. All the while, Kreklow continued to remain dominate in assists, having 30 in just the first two sets alone. Mizzou improved its team attack percentage from .205 in the first to .475 in the second.
Leading into the third set, Mizzou continued to connect as it tallied 11 kills on 34 total attempts and even though its team attack percentage went down in the third, Mizzou played well defensively to pull out another set win, 25-19. Mizzou then went on to make quick work of the Raiders in the fourth, taking the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
Mizzou will look to continue its winning streak on Saturday against Texas A&M at 4 p.m. at Hearnes. For all the latest on Mizzou volleyball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com.
