SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Behind another phenomenal performance by reigning Big 12 Swimmer of the Week Colleen Gordon, the Mizzou women's swimming and diving team defeated Notre Dame, Denver and Iowa at the 2010 Shamrock Invite.
"It was definitely one of the most exciting meets we've had in a while," Missouri swim coach Brian Hoffer said. "I know our girls are tired because they gave everything they had this weekend."
The squad's closest competitor all weekend was Notre Dame, with each having a lead at one point during the day. Eventually the Tigers would push ahead defeating the Irish 190-180. The Tigers completed the sweep defeating Iowa 269-101 and Denver 276-93.
Colleen Gordon began her day like she did yesterday, taking home the 100 fly title, touching the pad in 55.15 seconds. Gordon then went on to win the 1650 free title in 16:48.53 and the 200 fly later that day in 2:01.54 giving her four individual titles on the weekend.
Kim Jasmer and Francie Szostak finished one-two in the 200 free, with Jasmer finishing in 1:49.86 and Szostak finishing in 1:51.32. Stephanie Rovig also came in fourth in the race, finishing in 1:52.32.
Much was the same in the 100 free, except with Lisa Nathanson earning the first place finish in 50.65 seconds and Jasmer finishing second in 51.07 seconds.
Dominique Bouchard finished first in the 100 back, finishing in 55.74 seconds, and also took second in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:27.25 and second in the 200 back in 1:59.17.
In the 800 free relay, the Tigers had its top two relay groups finish ahead of Notre Dame's best group, as the team of Jasmer, Gordon, Rovig and Szostak finished first in 7:24.02, while the team of Lisa Nathanson, Caitlin Connor, Bouchard and Lauren Lavigna came in second in 7:29.06.
After having a disqualification in a relay yesterday, the Tiger women stormed out of the gate Saturday morning, with Cunningham, Ripley, Jasmer and Nathanson winning the 200 medley relay in 1:42.98.
Morgan McCleery finished second in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:04.71, with Ripley finishing fourth in 1:05.01 and Amanda Masters in fifth in 1:05.88. Ripley also finished third in 200 breast in 2:20.13, while McCleery finished fourth in 2:21.49.
Christina Gailey finished third in the 3-meter diving competition with 287 points, the highest finish for any Missouri women's diver on the weekend.
The 400 free relay team of Nathanson, Jasmer, Szostak and Gordon took home second place honors finishing in 3:26.35.
The Tigers return home to the Mizzou Aquatics Center on Saturday for a Senior Day tilt with Nebraska.
