LINCOLN, Neb. - The Mizzou track & field program had arguably its best meet of the indoor season at the Adidas Classic on Saturday (Jan. 23) inside the Bob Devaney Sports Complex on the campus of Nebraska. The Tiger women and men both took third place overall, scoring 86 and 83 points, respectively, in the program's second scored meet of the season. Nebraska won the six-team competition on both the men's and women's side while Kansas State took second on both sides as well. Senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) was one of the many highlights of the competition for the Tigers as he shattered his own school record in the 60m hurdles, running a time of 8.01 to take fourth place overall. Adcock had held the previous school record at 8.09 in the event. Shannon Leinert (Eureka, Mo.), who is the defending Big 12 800m Champion, also had a fine day in her first 800m run performance of the season as she turned in a time of 2:07.64 to win the event. That time is the new Big 12-leading time this season and an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.) highlighted the remaining top performers for the Tigers as she claimed the 600-yard title with a time of 1:22.84, a mark that ranks second in the Big 12 this season, trailing only Leinert, who set the Big 12-leading time at the season-opening Missouri Invitational. Blake Irwin (Bettnedorf, Iowa) also claimed an event title for the Tigers as he clocked the Big 12's second-best time in the 800m run this season at 1:50.56 to claim the event title. His time is just .06 seconds shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Aaron Dixon (Lee's Summit, Mo.) was also an event winner for Mizzou at the meet, turning in a 1,000m run time of 2:22.38, a personal-best clocking. That time also ties him with Chris Gowell of Baylor for the Big 12's top time in the 1,000m run this season and is the second-fastest mark in Mizzou program history.
The Tiger men saw plenty of success in the shot put as well, highlighted by an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 18.00m (59-0 ¾) by senior Andy Oaker (Steelville, Mo.), who claimed the event title. Freshman Corey Jones (Boonville, Mo.) placed second with a throw of 17.20m (56-5 ¼) as the Tigers took the top two spots in the event.
The Tiger women's 4x400m relay team - comprised of Leinert, Farmer, Lana Mims (Tulsa, Okla.) and Layne Moore (Emporia, Kan.) - also claimed an event title, running a time of 3:45.50 to take home their third event title of the season. The Tiger men placed fifth overall at 3:17.88 in the 4x400m relay as well.
The Tiger men also had a fine showing in the 600-yard run as Ryan Blackwell (Fenton, Mo.) and Ricky West (Scarborough, Ontario) placed second and third, respectively, in the event with times of 1:11.33 and 1:12.43, earning 14 points for the Tigers. Blackwell's time of 1:11.33 is the second-best time in the event by a Big 12 athlete so far this season. Coil finished third with a throw of 17.69m (58-0 ½), placing her third, while Ervin took sixth with a personal-best toss of 16.54m (54-3 ¼) in her second attempt.
