Columbia, Mo. - The 10th-ranked Tiger softball team suffered a 6-2 loss to No. 13 Oklahoma, with the two teams swapping standings in the Big 12 Conference. Oklahoma now leads the league with a 12-4 record while Missouri, at 11-4, stands a half game back of the Sooners. The two squads will battle for Big 12 bragging rights in game two of the series, set for Sunday, April 26, at Noon (CT) on University Field.
Playing a full seven innings in front of a record-setting 1,135 fans, Oklahoma earned the early advantage scoring one run on second baseman Amber Flores' solo home run in the top of the first. The Tigers were quick to erase the Sooner lead, putting up two runs in the second on senior third baseman Lindsey Ubrun's (Riverside, Calif.) yard ball to left field. Ubrun's 12th home run of the campaign lifted the Tigers ahead of the Sooners, a lead which Missouri held for five innings. Oklahoma answered in the seventh scoring five runs on four hits and one Missouri error. All five runs came across unearned.
Senior Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) was awarded the start however relief pitcher Kristin Nottelmann (Fenton, Mo.) was saddled with the loss. Delaney threw five complete innings, allowing only one run on two hits. Nottelmann took the ball in the sixth and gave up four hits in 1.2 innings. Freshman Chelsea Thomas (Pleasantville, Iowa) faced one batter in the seventh and forced a groundout. Nottelmann is now 11-1 on the year.
Missouri enters game two with a 41-7 record while Oklahoma improves to 36-13 on the year. The Tigers combined for five hits, but left six runners on base, two in scoring position.
