TEMPE, Ariz. - - Day three of the ASU DeMarini Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. saw the Missouri Tigers fall to Oregon State by a score of 12-8. The Tigers have now lost six-straight games.
Mizzou (1-6) fell behind as OSU scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. The Beavers extended their lead to five with a four-run third inning. The first three Oregon State batters to the plate in the third reached safely and all three scored. OSU (3-1) had three hits in the frame and drew a pair of walks.
The Tigers cut into the lead by scoring three times in the fourth inning. Sophomore Rex Meyr and senior Ryan Lollis drew walks and then junior Trevor Coleman connected on a three-run home to draw MU to within two of the Beavers.
The homer was the first of the year for Coleman and was the first hit of the game for the Tigers.
Missouri took the lead after scoring three runs on back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning. With two outs in the inning, senior Kyle Mach drove in two with a double off the wall. Mach then scored when freshman Ben Turner doubled.
The lead with short lived as Oregon State answered with a five-run bottom of the sixth inning, which included a two-run double by Stefen Romero and an RBI single from Jared Norris.
Each team put a run on the board in the seventh inning and added one in the eighth.
"We had betters at-bats up and down the lineup today," Head Coach Tim Jamieson said. "But we just made too many mistakes. When you are playing good teams, you're not going to win when you make the mistakes that we made."
Mach was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored in the game. Meyr also had two hits, scoring twice and driving in one.
On Saturday the Tigers will continue play in the ASU DeMarini Invitational taking on Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. (central time).
