Ames, IA - A week long break seemed to fuel the Missouri Track and Field squad on the first full day of competition in the ISU Classic, and with over 75 teams and 1,500 competitors, Mizzou would bring everything to the table with two NCAA provisional and automatic qualifying marks on Friday.
Chris Rohr set a new high in the Missouri record books, becoming the nation's leader in the weight throw tossing a monumental 22.71 meters in the final field event of the day. Going head-to-head against 39 other opponents, Rohr would go on to win his flight and go head-to-head against stiff competition in Army's Mike Mai and unattached athlete Bryan Tolcser. Although both would challenge Rohr, neither would be able to touch the 74 feet he threw.
On the women's side, Krishna Lee would continue the assault on her own records, and set another NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw with a toss of 19.33 meters, a season best in a second place finish to Indiana State's Kelsey Hanley. Both Lee and Rohr will look to continue their strong performances in the shot put tomorrow morning.
Combined event participant Kaela Rorvig had another positive outing in the Pentathlon, taking second place honors with 3827 points finishing behind Indiana State's Erica Moore who had 4030 points. Both are also provisional qualifying marks on the year.
Mizzou would have a strong showing throughout Friday's action where in the women's 200-meter dash, Sierra Gant and Lana Mims finished 11th and 12th, while Mims would also finish 11th in the women's long jump. Stacey Swineburg finished sixth in the women's high jump and Daniel Hunter placed sixth in the men's high jump, while the trio of Hannah Cooper, Abbie Garlich and Holly Stewart finished 19th and 20th in the women's pole vault. In the 3000-meter run, Aimee Bonte was the highest finishing Tigers, placing 12th in the two heats.
Some of the events highlighting the final day of competition will be the men's shot put, mile run and the 600-yard dash, with all of the action beginning at 9:30 a.m.
