Missouri vs. Texas Pan-American
11/22/09 - Game Notes
Missouri improved its home court winning streak to 21 games, which is the fifth longest in school history. The Tigers won 21 consecutive during the final eight home games of the 1986-87 season and the first 13 of the 1987-88 season. Missouri needs just two more home wins to move into the school's top three home court win streaks. That win streak is now the sixth longest in America.
In the first half alone, the Tiger bench outscored Texas Pan-American's bench 26-3, largely due to Laurence Bowers and Kim English, who led all Tigers with 10 and 11 points respectively at the break...
Senior guard J.T. Tiller did not dress out for the game after sustaining a sprained left foot in Mizzou's regular-season home opener against Tennessee-Martin...
Missouri also pushed its non-conference home court winning streak to 39 games, which extends the school-record total. Missouri's last loss at home vs. a non-Big 12 team was the season opener of the 2005-06 campaign against Sam Houston State.
Speaking of streaking, Missouri enjoyed a 44-2 run during the first half, to turn an 8-4 deficit to a 48-10 lead. The Tigers eventually carried a 50-13 lead into the half.
The 13 points scored by Pan American were the fewest in a half in the history of Mizzou Arena. Missouri limited Stephen F. Austin to just 17 points on Nov. 25, 2006 and held Western Illinois to 17 on Nov. 25, 2007.
Missouri had a pair of Kansas City, Mo., players make the first starts of their careers on Sunday. Sophomore Marcus Denmon made his first start, while freshman Michael Dixon earned the start in just his second career game. Denmon made the most of it, scoring the first seven points of the game for Mizzou...
It was actually a feast for all the Tiger sophomores on Sunday. Missouri's second-year players scored the team's first 26 points and went on a personal 26-0 run. Marcus Denmon scored seven, Laurence Bowers scored eight, Kim English scored six, Miguel Paul dropped in three and Steve Moore added two. Senior Zaire Taylor halted the sophomore fun with a bucket at the 7:27 mark...
Kim English topped his career mark as well. English finished the day with 25 points. His previous mark was 17 against Marquette in the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Perhaps more impressive were the four rebounds and three assists English chipped in as well...
Missouri also dished 28 assists as a team on 40 total field goals. Michael Dixon and Keith Ramsey each dished five times, setting career marks...
Sunday was the largest margin of victory for the Tigers in the history of Mizzou Arena. The previous mark was a 95-41 win (+54) against Arkansas-Pine Bluff last season. Missouri has now defeated three teams by 50+ points in the Mike Anderson Era. The Tigers handled SIU-Edwardsville 107-57 in 2008-09 as well.
Mizzou logged its sixth 100-point game of Mike Anderson's tenure, including the 102 points in last season's NCAA Tournament win against Memphis. Not surprisingly, Missouri is 6-0 in those games.
