Head Coach Mike Anderson
Missouri vs. Baylor
On rebounding from the Kansas State loss:
"Hats off to our guys, coming off the K-state game, it was a challenge. I thought our guys responded positively, especially in that second half."
On Leo Lyons and DeMarre Carroll:
"[Leo] was just getting warmed up. They had no answer for him or DeMarre. To our guys' credit, they did a good job of getting it to those guys and getting it to them in a position where they can do something with the ball. They made plays, and I thought defensively, in the second half, especially going down the stretch, our match up defense has been the best it's been since I've been here."
On Leo Lyons and senior leadership:
"He's attacking the basket and the thing I really liked about what I saw tonight was his effort on defense. He played a big part back there, making it tough for those guys. He was challenged and I thought he responded. That's what seniors are supposed to do. I look at DeMarre and Leo, they led this team. And then I look at guys like J.T. and he almost had a double-double and no turnovers in a game of this magnitude."
On Leo Lyons and DeMarre Carroll combining for 55 points:
"That's productivity right there. And that's figuring out where you have an advantage. Hats off to Baylor, they are an excellent basketball team and they wouldn't go away in the second half. We kept making shots, we went up by 14 or 16, and they still continued to come after us. But we made some plays and we made free throws. When you make free throws, that makes a big difference. We also got some stops."
Mizzou Basketball Player Quotes
On his big night after being reinserted into the starting lineup:
"I knew I had to do something special and work as hard as I could when they gave me another opportunity. I just went out their and played my heart out."
On how he played coming off the bench the past few games:
"Coming off the bench was sort of like a wake up call that it wasn't going to be given to me. I have to work hard every day and I've been trying to make a better effort to work hard and be a better leader. I guess he noticed that and gave me another chance."
On scoring 1000 points:
"I didn't know I was that close. I'm pretty sure nobody thought I was going to score 30 so they didn't tell me. I'm proud to be part of the club. DeMarre did it earlier and I'm proud to be a part of it."
On how Leo Lyon's play helped him:
"It made it a whole lot easier. They had to worry about him so much and then they lose sight of me, and then they have to worry about me and they lose sight of him. I'm just glad Leo woke up tonight and led our team to a great victory."
On the teams bounce back:
"You've got to protect you home turf. When people come here you can't let games like that slip away. Like coach said, you've got to go on the road you've got to try to steal them. We went to Oklahoma State and stole one, we went to Kansas State and we turned out unlucky. We're going to try to go to Texas with the same mentality, the defensive mindset that we had coming in tonight."
On the difference between playing at home and on the road:
"I think it's the crowd and our mentality coming in. We have to protect our home. We have to take that on the road and make that our home. We've got to stick together. We're all we've got, and that's the mentality we've got to take on the road."
Baylor Post Game Quotes
Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew Quotes
Opening Statement...
"I think we'd like to go back and do the last five minutes over. But other than that I thought that Missouri really played a very hard-fought game. They are very tough at home. The last five minutes I thought they really executed well and the crowd really gave them a good lift. And we didn't execute like we know how. So we'll work on that and move on because we have a big game on Monday."
On this year's Mizzou team compared to last season...
"I think they are playing with great confidence and they have great leadership, especially with (DeMarre) Carroll and his down-low play tonight. What makes them so tough is they take you on the outside and the inside, so they're versatile. Those are great things to build a team around and makes everybody else really feed off of them. Again, the confidence level they are playing with this year is much higher."
On playing catch-up throughout the game...
"I never really did (think we were playing catch-up). We got off to a great start and then we made a run and then got it close. And I really thought there was a key stretch in the beginning of the second half there, we had some opportunities and we missed some real easy shots. I think we took a step back from there, got down again. We really fought hard to catch up, cut it to one. I'd love to have gotten the lead just to fight that hard and see how things go... But again, credit to Missouri for getting off to such a great start."
Baylor Senior Forward Kevin Rodgers
"Obviously, everyone knows that he is a great player, he can go inside, outside... Credit to them, they got him (Lyons) the ball, they got him to the free throw line. He was very aggressive tonight and he put his team on top."
On how Lyons' defense effected his own play...
"I just tried to come out and be aggressive. I've been playing some pretty decent basketball the past couple games. So I just try to continue what I start. My teammates are able to find me in critical points in the game and early on in the game and I'm able to capitalize."
