Missouri vs. Iowa State

Mizzou Arena, Columbia, MO
Head Coach Mike Anderson Quotes
Opening Statement…
“First, what a defensive effort from our guys. The mindset from our guys was to come in and play defense and I think our defense was a constant the last two games. That allowed us to hang around in the game, because we didn't shoot the ball well, especially in the first half. Neither did Iowa State, and I attribute that to our defense. I thought in the second half we started making shots and our defense continued to step up. I want to say thanks to the people who came out today, I thought they made a big difference. If I could get 16,000 or 17,000 people a night, you think they're playing now… they'll take it to a whole other level. Those runs could go longer. It got pretty loud in there and our guys feed off that.”
On his reaction to Marcus Denmon's performance and confidence…
“That's who Marcus is. He's a scorer, a known scorer, and especially with the way they pack their defense, eventually you're going to knock some shots down. He took some shots in the first half that didn't fall for him, but the thing I like about Marcus is that he mixed it up on the offense with offensive rebounds and then of course, he's playing defense and I think that is what is keeping him on the court.”
On whether their three-point shooting is keeping defenses away from Carroll and Lyons…
“I thought their defense not only doubled down, but they packed it in. It was kind of like Nebraska. We're going to make some shots, shooting is all about rhythm. I thought the game had a rhythm to it and I thought our defense set the tone. They only had 14 turnovers, but I still think our defense was the biggest force in the game.”

On Saturday's margin of victory…
“I wouldn't say we would go into the game thinking we would win by the margin of victory we have been getting in these last couple games, but we always go into the games with the same mindset that every game is a big game and try to get the win.”
On his confidence on the floor…
“Well I'm always pretty confident when I go out there. Whether I make it or miss it, I always go out with confidence. It's something our coach tells us, if you get a good shot, take it. So, I'm always pretty confident with it.”
On Saturday's margin of victory…
“Honestly, it doesn't surprise me. I wouldn't say I expect it every game, but it doesn't surprise me when we win by that much. When we're on and we play defense, we're a team that can score the ball against anybody when we're playing our basketball, it's just a matter of whether our shots our falling. When we play the defense we're capable of playing and start doing it on a nightly basis maybe we will start seeing this more often.”
Greg McDermott, Iowa State Head Coach Quotes
Opening Statement:
“The way we started the game was exactly what we try to avoid. We turned it over seven times in the first 13 possessions of the game. I think that fed Missouri's offense and got them off to a good start. I think they showed a level of confidence that we weren't quite able to reverse, although I really liked the way we defended the last ten minutes of the first half. We gave ourselves an opportunity to still be in the game after not playing well early. To their credit, they really shot the ball well. Any team that shoots 10-of-14 from the three-point line in a half is probably going to win. They stepped up and made some shots.”
On the chances Missouri created:
“Sometimes you look at statistics. Denton was only shooting 26 percent on the year and he makes 4-of-6 tonight. You have to try and take away something and I think when you try to take away something when you have two guys as talented as Carroll and Lyons, you have to give somewhere. They're guys that are really difficult to guard one-on-one, especially when we're doing it with freshman and sophomores. We tried to get it out of their hands some and, to Missouri's credit, they made us pay for it.”
