Series Notes:
- This matchup marks the second time that these two teams have faced each other. The first meeting dates back to 1936, when Southeast Missouri State was known as Cape Girardeau Teachers College. The Tigers were victorious in that contest by a score of 20-0, which also took place in Columbia. Missouri is now 2-0 all-time against SEMO.
Pre-Game Notes:
- Team captains for Missouri: Senior FS William Moore, senior QB Chase Daniel, senior QB Chase Patton, WR #84 Tommy Saunders, DT #94 Ziggy Hood, and PK #99 Jeff Wolfert.
- Team captains for SEMO: #5 QB Houston Lillard, #8 CB Kendall Magana, #53 LB Nick Stauffer, #57 LT Nick Ketelsleger, and #84 WR Michael Williamson.
- SEMO won the toss and elected to receive. Missouri defended the South endzone.
First Quarter Notes:
- Missouri took their first possession after the defense forced a three-and-out and drove 70 yards in seven plays for a touchdown. Sophomore running back Derrick Washington capped the drive with a five-yard touchdown run.
- During Missouri's second drive of the opening quarter, Daniel completed a pass to freshman WR Jerrell Jackson for 13 yards. The reception was the first of Jackson's career.
- Missouri found the end zone again on their second drive, going 83 yards on six plays in 1:43. Daniel hit sophomore WR Jeremy Maclin from three yards out for the touchdown.
- The Tiger defense forced SEMO to back-to-back three-and-outs to open the game.
- SEMO drove deep into Tiger territory during their third possession, but failed to get on the board after senior DT Ziggy Hood blocked Doug Spada's 25-yard field goal attempt.
- Hood's blocked field goal was Missouri's first blocked field goal attempt since Sept. 23, 2006 against Ohio.
- The Tigers followed up the defensive stand with a four play, 75-yard touchdown drive, finished off with a 28-yard pass from Daniel to Washington.
- The 21 first quarter points by Missouri tied the single-game high under Head Coach Gary Pinkel. The feat has been accomplished three other times.
Second Quarter Notes:
- Redshirt freshman RB De'Vion Moore got his first career rush during Missouri's fourth drive of the game. Moore took the handoff and ran for 11 yards and a Missouri first down. Moore finished with a game-high 75 yards on nine carries.
- Missouri found the end zone for the fourth time early in the second quarter, as Daniel hit junior WR Jared Perry from 28 yards out for the score. The drive took 2:48 and totaled 82 yards over eight plays.
- Junior LB Sean Weatherspoon intercepted a pass and returned it 67-yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, pushing the Missouri lead to 35-0. Last week, Weatherspoon intercepted a pass and returned it 35-yards for a score.
- Weatherspoon became the first player in Mizzou history to return an interception for a touchdown in consecutive games.
- Weatherspoon also became just the seventh player at Missouri to have multiple interceptions for touchdowns in his career. Erik McMillan and fellow teammate William Moore each have three career interceptions for touchdowns. McMillan got three in 1987, while Moore got one in 2005, one in 2006, and one in 2007.
- Missouri's fifth offensive touchdown once again came on a five-yard run by Washington. The run concluded a six-play, 48-yard drive that totaled 2:04.
- Senior Chase Patton entered the game at quarterback late in the second quarter.
- Daniel ended his night by completing his last 14 passes, one off the school record of 15 held by Daniel, over the course of two games in 2007, and Kent Kiefer (Sept. 8, 1990).
- The 42 first half points by the Tigers is the most ever for a Missouri squad under Pinkel. Missouri had scored 35 points in the first half twice during Pinkel's tenure.
Third Quarter Notes:
- True freshman QB Blaine Gabbert began the second half under center.
- Gabbert's first career pass was also his first career completion, hitting senior RB Jimmy Jackson for a 13-yard gain.
- Freshman WR Michael Egnew caught his first career pass, a four-yard strike from Patton for a first down.
- Freshman WR Wes Kemp brought in a 15-yard pass from Patton, the first reception of his career.
- Wolfert connected on a 43-yard field goal to cap an eight play, 41-yard drive. The kick was Wolfert's 18th-straight successful field goal attempt, dating back to last season.
Fourth Quarter Notes:
- Jimmy Jackson capped a six-play, 76-yard drive that took up 1:49 with a 17-yard touchdown run.
- Gabbert's 30-yard run was the longest run by a Missouri quarterback since Daniel's 39-yard run in last year's home opener against Western Michigan.
Post-Game Notes:
- The attendance for the game was 62,305, which is the fourth-largest home-opening attendance in Mizzou history. It's also the largest home opener attendance since the Tigers faced Alabama in front of 73,655 - the highest season-opening crowd in school history.
- Pinkel is now 6-2 all-time in home openers at MU and 5-0 at Missouri against the Football Championship Subdivision.
- Mizzou now stands at 83-31-4 (72.8%) all-time in home openers.
- Daniel's 273.4 passing efficiency rating for the game broke the Missouri school record, previously held by Corby Jones (270.7).
- Missouri is now 8-0 all-time in the modern era against teams from the Football Championship Subdivision.
- Ten different receivers caught passes for the Tigers, with nine bringing in multiple receptions.
- The 52 points by Mizzou is the highest point total for the Tigers in a home opener in 80 years. On Oct. 13, 1928, the Tigers beat Centre (Ky.) 60-0.
- Missouri's 49-point victory marks the largest margin of victory under Pinkel. The previous high was 48 points against Ball State on Sept. 18, 2004.
