COLUMBIA, Mo. - - No. 14 Missouri defeated Kansas State, 13-10, on Friday night at Taylor Stadium, snapping its five-game losing streak. The Tigers hit five home runs on the night, including two by senior Jacob Priday.
Junior Aaron Crow took the win to improve to 10-0 on the season. He struck out eight in 5.1 innings pitched, allowing six runs on eight hits. Crow has picked up the win in all but one of his starts this year.
With the victory, Crow moves into a tie for fifth in the MU record book for wins in a season. And is one away from tying the record which is held by four former Tigers.
Priday, who holds the MU record for career home runs, hit the 47th and 48th homers of his career on Friday. The first was a two-run shot that came in the second inning and the second was a solo home run in the fourth.
Sophomore Aaron Senne put Mizzou (30-15, 10-9 Big 12) on the board by connecting on a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. It was his 10th of the season and the 17th of his career. Later in the first, the Tigers loaded the bases and freshman Andrew Thigpen cleared them with a three-run double to cap off a five-run first inning for Missouri.
Priday's homer in the second inning made it a 7-2 lead for MU. The Tigers went back-to-back in the fourth inning, as sophomore Trevor Coleman followed Priday's shot with his first home run of the year.
Each team scored a run in the fifth inning and Kansas State put up three in its half of the sixth and added a run in the seventh to make it a 10-7 MU lead.
Missouri scored three times in the bottom of the eighth, getting a lead-off home run from junior Ryan Lollis, his first of the season, and a two-run single from freshman Jonah Schmidt.
The Wildcats (21-24, 6-13) scored three times in the top of the ninth, before junior Scooter Hicks got a strikeout and a foul out the end the game. Hicks picked up his fourth save of the year and the 10th of his career.
The series continues at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with the finale set for 3 p.m. on Sunday.
