O'FALLON, Mo. - - No. 4 Missouri fell to Southern Illinois by score of 2-1 on Wednesday in a wood-bat game at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon, Mo. The Salukis broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the eighth inning to go ahead and held on for the win.
With the score tied at one heading to the eighth, SIU got three-straight singles, with the third coming from Mark Kelly to drive in what would be the game-winning run.
With the win SIU improves to 21-17 on the year, while Mizzou falls to 29-11.
SIU designated hitter Tyler Bullock got the scoring started on Wednesday as he led off the second inning with a home run to give the Salukis the early 1-0 lead.
The Tigers tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, as junior Steve Gray singled and moved to third on a failed pick off attempt. He then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of junior Kyle Mach.
Missouri had chances to pull ahead but left the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Southern Illinois also had chances to score more runs, but the Tigers turned three double plays to end SIU threats in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Junior Ian Berger allowed just one run on four hits in six innings on the mound for Mizzou. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. He left with the game tied, taking a no decision.
