Two-Run Homer Lifts Tigers Past Long Island

Clearwater, Fla. -Junior Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) hit her third home run of the USF Under Armour Invitational to help Missouri record a 5-4 win over Long Island University in eight innings. The Tigers' second extra inning game of the season, Ubrun drove in sophomore Julie Silver (Chesterfield, Mo.) from second base, Silver was on second due to international tie breaker rules, giving Missouri the one run advantage and advancing Missouri's record to 19-6.
Sophomore lefty Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) collected her eight win of the season and seventh straight victory of the year striking out four Blackbirds in seven innings. The start was Hainey's eighth of the season and brings her record to 8-1. Hainey faced 31 batters and allowed only five hits and four runs, none of which were earned.
Missouri took an early lead scoring one run in the bottom of the first frame. Batting from the two-hole, Silver hit her second home run of the season, a shot deep over the wall in right center.
Allowing LIU three runs in the top of the third frame, Missouri pulled within one run in the bottom of the fourth inning on designated player Jen Bruck's (St. Peters, Mo.) home run over the left field wall. As a team, the Tigers have hit nine home runs over the past six games.
Batting leadoff, second baseman Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) doubled to start the seventh inning and advanced home on catcher Katie Milles' (St. Louis, Mo.) fielder's choice in which the play at the plate was botched and Allen's run came across earned.
Ubrun, now averaging, .384 on the season with a .822 slugging percentage leads the Tigers with 31 RBI. In the USF Under Armour Tournament alone, Ubrun has been credited with six RBI and has a .583 average and 1.417 slugging percentage and .688 on-base percentage.
Missouri's final game of the four-day tournament will be played Sunday, March 9 at 10 a.m. (CT) against Villanova.
