Mizzou Earns Sixth Consecutive Win

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Propelled by a 29-2 run to open the game, the University of Missouri women's basketball team earned its sixth consecutive victory with a 60-31 win over Southeast Missouri State on Monday afternoon at Mizzou Arena. The win improves the Tigers' record to 7-4 while the Redhawks fall to 4-8 on the year.
Junior Jessra Johnson led the way with 14 points, senior Alyssa Hollins also scored in double figures with 13 and freshman Christine Flores added a career high nine points. Sophomore RaeShara Brown paced the Tigers with eight rebounds while redshirt freshman Bekah Mills had six boards and a personal best three blocks.
Mizzou was on fire to start the game and grabbed a quick 9-0 lead after Mills made a layup with 17:49 left in the first. After the Redhawks hit a basket, the Tigers reeled off 20 consecutive points, coming from five different players, for a 29-2 contest with 6:09 remaining in the opening frame.
The Redhawks went on a 10-4 run of their own over the next four minutes but Missouri scored the final seven points of the first half, including a three from junior Amanda Hanneman with nine seconds left, to enter the break with a 40-12 advantage.
A free throw from Johnson gave the Tigers a 47-13 lead, their biggest of the game, with 15:24 left in the contest. The two teams played even for the rest of the game as Mizzou claimed the 60-31 win.
The Tigers travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., on Saturday, Jan. 3 for a 1 p.m. ET (Noon CT) contest with Duquesne. Mizzou then closes out its non-conference schedule with a 5 p.m. game against Chicago State on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
