Head Coach Mike Anderson
December 20, 2008
On not playing for one week and coming out flat:
"That's what I told our guys. You can try to simulate [game speed] in practice, but it just isn't the same. But we got it out of our system in the second half and we did well."
On the bench providing a spark in the first half:
"They did a tremendous job. Justin came in and played physical. You have to have somebody come off that bench and give you a spark. Those guys in the first half did really well."
On defensive play:
"Our defense was very good in the first half, we just weren't making shots. You could just see the rhythm, and it was amazing that in the second half it was the complete opposite. We only had nine turnovers and they only had one assist."
"He played great, that's what he's been doing in practice. I've been going home and telling my wife, 'I know this kid Bowers is going to help our basketball team.' He's getting more and more ready. He's long and athletic, and he's always around the basketball. He can finish too."
Post Game Player Quotes
Missouri Senior Forward DeMarre Carroll
On the second-half turn around for Missouri…
“Like Coach (Anderson) said we're going to credit our first half to our silence. We went in there (locker room) and regrouped and our bench really came alive. Coach said 'you've got the fans out there, so let's keep them there.' We don't want to lose our fans, so we did whatever it took to keep them.”
On Tuesday's game against Illinois in St. Louis…
“We're going to go out there in that game and not really worry about the fans. We're going into that game with the same mindset we did against Oral Roberts, Cal… We're going to do what Coach asks us to do and I hope we pick up a win. The fans are either going to come or they're not. We want them to come and we're going to go out there and try to give them a reason to come.”
Missouri Junior Forward Justin Safford
On his blocked shot…
“I was thinking I was going to block his shot. I was trying to time it and figure out when he was going up, just daring him to shoot.”
Missouri Senior Guard Matt Lawrence
On Mizzou holding Stetson to 6% from beyond the arc…
“We came into the game knowing they were a great three-point shooting team, it's a lot of their offense. I think half of their field goals are three-pointers. We knew coming in that we were going to have to guard the three-point line. We had guys running out there, and had a ton of blocked shots. When we contested so many shots it made them struggle there in the beginning and then throughout the whole game.”
On Missouri's first-half struggles…
“I think we struggled shooting the ball in the first half, but we were able to make adjustments at halftime, get the ball to the inside to DeMarre and let him go to work and the shots started falling after that.
