Mike Anderson Quotes
Opening Statement
“This is a game I worried about the whole time it was on the schedule. The reason why Oral Roberts is is a dangerous basketball team. It's a team that has been to the tournament the last three years. They bring some guys with experience and time you go on the road if you can shoot the basketball it will let you stay in the game. We always talk about going on the road and shooting the ball, get to the free throw line, not only that but eliminate the turnovers. They did all of those things so for us to put it off says a lot about our basketball team, I think we are still trying to find ways to win. Obviously we think we can play better but at the same let's give Oral Roberts some credit. Jarvis what a shooting display because the thing about a shooter is they make the first couple of shots and you got some trouble. I thought the big key of the guys coming in was Miguel Paul, he did a good job coming down the stretch when we had to have some stops.”
On players complimenting each other:
“It takes time for those guys to get used to one another and they compliment each other. I think that is the good part of our team this year, we have a lot of guys that are versatile and compliment each other so the more you play and formulate your team I think you start seeing those guys getting the ball to guys in the right positions. Let's say Leo (Lyons) he had a mis-match for the most part most of the night. Early on he was not finishing but in the second half he did a better job. Demarre he is just blue collar. I think as we continue to get better with J.T. [Tiller] and Zaire [Taylor], I think it will be one of those situations where they just compliment each other. Of course you have Matt Lawrence, a guy who can knock some shots down.”
On help from the bench
“I think the key is getting them in early in the game. In the first half they actually got us the lead. Getting them in when it matters so therefore they can get some confidence.”
On the half court shot
“When you start seeing the shooting like that, you see half court shots, you see tipped in on the rebound by our guy. It's weird stuff happening, that's when you really start worrying. I was just glad to get out of here with a win against Oral Roberts.”
Post Game Player Quotes
On the combo he and Carroll create…
"Its pretty apparent that we are going to stay on the attack. One time it may be his night, one time it may be my night. Us working together really opens up so much on the court. We've got a lot of chemistry out there so we play off each other and it works."
On Oral Roberts' guard Robert Jarvis…
"We practice with each other everyday, so it wasn't anything we haven't seen before, but he played well."
On Mizzou's non-conference home winning streak…
"We haven't really thought about it because what we try to do is win every game, game by game, one game at a time. If we can take care of home, that's the best thing for us.
On his free throw shooting…
"My free throw shooting ability has been kind of inconsistent. I just took it upon myself to shoot more, try to be more consistent. If they go in it's because I've been working on it."
Senior Forward DeMarre Carroll
On the combo he and Lyons create…
"We try to provide leadership. The team is basically on our back so if we get in foul trouble or we don't get a rebound or score a point sometimes the team, like Miguel Paul (today) at the end of the game, said 'step up, we need your energy' so that's why I went diving over the table just for the ball. I just know any given night I can tell Leo to step up, if it's not his night he can tell me to step up."
On Oral Roberts' guard Robert Jarvis…
"When a good player like that gets going, once you let him get going its hard to stop him after that. We've got to contain him from the start and make it hard for him early. I think we're going to do a better job of that as the season goes on."
On Missouri freshman Miguel Paul…
I think he's had some good games, he played really well against USC. I don't really rate people by points, but I think he's been playing some good basketball, picking it up, especially when we were on the road, the Xavier game he picked it up tremendously."
