Tigers Fall on the Road to Baylor, 3-2

The Missouri volleyball team (13-15, 7-11 Big 12) fell to the Baylor Bears (18-11, 9-9 Big 12) on Saturday night in Waco in its final road trip of the season. The Bears came back after losing the first two sets to win, 22-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-12. The Tigers came back from down 20-16 in the first set to win that frame, but now have lost its second five-set match in a row.
The Tigers will now end its season next week with home contests against No. 4 Texas on Wednesday and Texas A&M on Friday. With the loss, Mizzou is now mathematically eliminated from a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Sophomore Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa) led Mizzou with 14 kills on the evening, adding 13 digs and four blocks. Junior Amanda Hantouli (Omaha, Neb.) added 11 kills with five blocks. Sophomore Lauren Nuckolls scored 10 kills, six kills in the fifth frame alone. Megan Wilson added 10 kills and four blocks as well.
Sophomore Caitlyn Vann scooped 20 digs.
The Tigers outblocked the Bears 14-5 in its best blocking effort of the Big 12 season.
Baylor was led by Katie Sanders' 18 kills on the night.
The Tigers used a 9-2 run, recovering from a 20-16 deficit, to win the first set 25-22. After Mizzou used its final timeout at 20-16, the Tigers scored key blocks from Klein and Weiwen Wang and kills from Hantouli to steal the set. A Megan Wilson solo block ended the set as Mizzou scored the final five points of the frame. The Tigers outblocked the Bears in the set 5-1. Hantouli would score four kills in the frame on an errorless six attempts.
Mizzou would outhit BU .280 to -.027 in the second frame to win the set 25-19. Hantouli continued flawless attacking, producing three kills on seven errorless attacks. Megan Wilson scored on three of Mizzou's four blocks in the frame as Mizzou garnered leads of 6-2 and 11-4 in the uncontested set.
The Tigers struggled on the offensive end in its third set, 25-17, loss. Mizzou managed just six kills on a .000 hitting percentage in the stanza, compared to Baylor's .262 in the set.
Mizzou had a chance to steal the fourth set, as they would find themselves down 16-13, but would fight back with a 7-2 run to go up 20-18, but a three-point BU run would make it 21-20 in favor of the Bears. The teams were tied at 22-22, but two unforced Mizzou errors gave Baylor set point. Hantouli would pound a kill off a Bear, but a Tiger service error gave the Bears the stanza. Mizzou did score 15 kills in the set, but the Bears connected on 17, as the teams dueled to a BU .250-.229 hitting advantage.
