Tigers Drop Match at No. 3 Nebraska, 3-0

LINCOLN, Neb. - Missouri junior Megan Wilson (Lincoln, Neb.) scored a season-high 16 kills in a homecoming-of-sorts during the Tigers' three-set loss, 25-19, 25-22, 25-14, at No. 3 Nebraska, Wednesday, in Lincoln, Neb. The Tigers (12-13, 6-9 Big 12) will travel to Colorado on Saturday in attempts of stopping a six-match road skid.
Wilson was phenomenal on the evening against the league's best defense, tallying a .500 hitting percentage, committing just one error in 30 attempts. Wilson also scored an ace and added five digs on the evening.
Sophomore Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa) notched 10 kills, adding a block and five digs to the night.
Junior Lei Wang (Shanghai, China) compiled another double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs in the contest.
Sophomore Caitlyn Vann (Muncie, Ind.) scooped a team-leading 12 digs.
As a team, Mizzou hit near its conference season average with a .207 performance while Nebraska tallied a .351 hitting strike, and outblocked the Tigers 9-3.
The Huskers (24-1, 15-1 Big 12) were led by Jordan Larson's 16 kills, two aces, and 13 digs.
Nebraska won the first set 25-19, but needed five match points to seal the deal as Mizzou's largest run of the set came while down 24-19. The first several rallies of the set contained extended play as both sides had difficulty terminating play. Mizzou had a balanced attack to start the set, but after running into six Nebraska blocks, the set hitting percentage sunk to .000. However, Nebraska committed a couple unforced errors and was at times stymied by the scrappy play of the Tigers to hit just .222 in the frame. Early on, the Tigers used a 3-0, three-kill run by Megan Wilson to take a 5-4 lead, but a 4-0 comeback run by the Huskers took the score to 8-5. From that point, Nebraska would keep the control. A 5-0 Nebraska run that included three-straight blocks spread the MU deficit to seven at 18-11. A further 5-1 run by the Huskers would give them a 24-15 lead. Megan Wilson would lead Mizzou with six kills in the set while Caitlyn Vann tallied seven digs.
Despite outhitting the Huskers .395-.385 in the second frame, the Tigers dropped the set 25-22 forcing 10 ties and four lead changes through 15-15. The score was 23-22 in favor of Nebraska until a kill by Kori Cooper followed by a Tara Mueller ace that went untouched was called in on the baseline sealed the set for NU. Megan Wilson had already eclipsed her season-high kill total by the end of the second set as an additional eight kills gave the junior 14 total through the intermission. Wilson also collected an ace in the frame.
The Huskers would claim leads of 5-1 and 8-2 on the way to a 25-14 set three win at the expense of the Tigers. NU would hit at .444 clip while allowing the Tigers just nine kills on .229 hitting.
Mizzou will continue its road stretch with a Saturday matchup at Colorado (12-11, 6-s8). Game time in Boulder is set for 2 p.m., mountain.
