Kansas Head Coach Bill Self Post Game Quotes
On Kansas' performance at the free throw line
"It wasn't very good, but I'm certainly not going to complain about the number we shot. We made just enough to win the game. We made it hard on ourselves down the stretch by not converting. We made a lot of one for twos and we've got to do better than that."
On Kansas failing to make a field goal in the last seven minutes
"That's a little misleading, considering the amount of free throws we attempted. Our goal late, even though we never really executed what we wanted to do, was to use the clock and hopefully create an inside scoring opportunity. We drove it pretty good a few times and came away empty, but we didn't take very many shots in the last seven minutes."
On shutting down DeMarre Carroll
"I think he's a really good player, and I think we got lucky tonight as he missed some shots he would normally make. I thought we defended him fine for the most part. I think we got a break because he didn't shoot a real good percentage."
On Kansas' forty percent shooting effort
"I think Mizzou had us sped up to the point where we didn't execute very well. I really think our guards are as good as any guards out there and I think they got sped up and we tried to make some great plays as opposed to letting the ball make the plays for us. And I think that just contributes to Mizzou getting after us. I thought their defense was very good. We had a size advantage inside and the big guys didn't get as many touches in large part because the pressure on the perimeter was very good."
On Brandon Rush's performance
"I think he just didn't make shots. I thought he was pretty aggressive. Brandon hasn't been a guy to put himself in the position to shoot a lot of free throws and even though some of them were late the majority of his free throws came from him attacking the rim. It's a big game for him but it's also a hard game for him. He likes a lot of people over here, but he catches a little grief every time he comes over here, which he should."
Mizzou Head Coach Mike Anderson
Opening Statement:
"I thought that our defense got out there and scrapped and clawed and got after the loose balls and really helped us a lot out there tonight."
"I think they really left it on the floor tonight."
On Decision to start Volkus:
"Well Kansas has some size on us, and I thought that he would get in there and be physical and mix it up a little, and he did."
On Where Mizzou is as a Team:
"We had a great effort tonight and if we keep it up I think we'll be just fine."
On His Team's defensive effort:
"I thought we played with good energy defensively and that's the key. Whether it be at home or on the road our defense is the key area where we need to be consistent. We control that energy-level and need to come with that every night out in this league."
