General Game Notes
- Today's meeting was the first all-time between Missouri and Kent State. The Tigers improved to 1-0 all-time vs. the Golden Flashes. Mizzou also improved to 28-4 all-time vs. Mid-American Conference opponents.
- With the win, Missouri will face Louisville at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Kent State will face Miami (Fla.) at 1 p.m.
- Missouri and Kent State played in front of a Taylor Stadium record 3,481 spectators.
Missouri Game Notes
- The win was the first for Mizzou in the opening round of an NCAA Regional since the 1991 season. Missouri defeated Jacksonville 5-4 in that opening-round match-up.
- The 10 runs scored by Mizzou were the most by the Tigers in the opening round of NCAA Regional play since MU defeated Saint Louis 16-0 in 1963.
- The win for Mizzou was its 41st of the year, ranking No. 6 all-time in single-season wins. The 41 victories equals the 1991 Tigers.
- Thanks to their two runs in the fourth inning, Missouri improved to an impressive 28-6 when scoring first.
- The 10 runs scored by the Tigers were the most against Kent State since Northern Illinois plated 11 in a 11-8 win in Kent, Ohio on April 7, 2007. Prior to tonight's offensive explosion, Kent State had gone 28 games without allowing more than eight runs in a game.
- The 10 runs by the Tigers were their most in NCAA Regional play since scoring 14 against Harvard in 2005.
- Aaron Crow earned his ninth win of the season thanks to his first complete-game win of the year. Crow went the distance against Texas A&M on April 14, 2007, but got the hard-luck loss in a 3-1 A&M win at Taylor Stadium.
- A postseason standout, Crow has now earned back-to-back complete-game wins in NCAA Regional play. The Wakarusa, Kan., native allowed six hits and one run in a 4-1 win at Pepperdine on June 4, 2006, saving the Tigers from the brink of elimination.
- The nine wins for Crow move him into No. 8 on MU's single-season wins list. Crow is tied with 12 other Tigers.
- With his 9.0 innings of work, Crow has now pitched 117.0 innings on the year, which ranks No. 4 in school history. No. 3 on the MU list is John Dettmer, who threw 120.0 innings in 1991.
- John McKee hit his first career Grand Slam in the sixth inning against Chris Carpenter. The homer was the eighth of the year for McKee, which moved him into a tie for second on the club. The round-tripper was also the first allowed by Carpenter this season.
- The Grand Slam was also the first recorded by Mizzou since Ryan Lollis against Florida International on Feb. 10, 2007.
- Outstanding NCAA Regional performances are nothing new for McKee. McKee earned Malibu Region All-Tournament Team honors in 2006 and is now 11-for-29 (.379) with 10 RBI in his career in postseason play.
- In addition to handing Carpenter his first loss of the year (4-1), the six earned runs allowed were a season high for the redshirt sophomore.
- Jacob Priday hit his 14th double of the season in the fourth inning, which was a career high. Priday hit 13 doubles in each of his first two seasons at Mizzou.
- Fresh off of being named the Big 12 Conference's Freshman of the Year, catcher Trevor Coleman broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning, rifling a two-run single to center field. The RBI's were his 40th and 41st of the season. It was also his 16th multi-RBI game of the year, which is second on the club this season behind the 18 multi-RBI games enjoyed by Priday.
Kent State Game Notes
- Today's loss was Kent State's first of the postseason. The Golden Flashes were a perfect 4-0 in Mid-American Conference Tournament in action in Ypsilanti, Mich., before today's defeat.
- Kent State suffered just its second loss in the last 18 games. The Golden Flashes enter Saturday's game vs. Miami (Fla.) 16-2 in their last 18 contests.
- Kent State is competing in its fourth NCAA Regional in the last seven seasons. Despite today's loss, the Golden Flashes have had great success against host schools, beating Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., in 2004, Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, in 2001 and LSU in Baton Rouge, La., in 1993.
- Greg Rohan got Kent State on the board in the top of the seventh inning with his team-leading 12th home run of the year.
