AUSTIN, Texas-- - Mizzou extended its winning streak over Texas to four games, taking a 7-6 win in 11 innings on Friday night in Austin, Texas. The Tigers scored the winning run on an error in the top of the 11th inning and Ryan Lollis threw Clay Van Hook out at home in the bottom half of the 11th for the final out of the game.
The Tigers have defeated Texas in six of the last seven contests between the two teams. MU pulls within one game in the loss column of Texas with a 13-6 Big 12 record, while the Longhorns fall to 17-5 in league play.
Senior John McKee singled to lead off the top of the eleventh inning. He was lifted for pinch runner Kurt Calvert, who moved second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Gary Arndt and then went to third on a ground out by junior Evan Frey. Then, with junior Brock Bond at the plate, a throw back from the UT catcher Preston Clark sailed over the head of the Longhorn pitcher Randy Boone, allowing Calvert to score the go-ahead run.
In the bottom of the 11th, freshman Greg Folgia retired the first two batters before hitting Van Hook. Jordan Danks then hit a shot to right that got away from Lollis as he attempted to make a diving catch. Lollis would recover and throw Van Hook out at home as he was attempting to score from first to end the game.
Folgia pitched the final 2.1 innings to take the win and improve to 5-3 on the year.
Junior Jacob Priday put Mizzou on the board with a home run in the top of the fourth inning, his sixth of the season. It was Priday's second hit of the game after he doubled in the first inning and was his eight-straight hit that had gone for extra bases.
Freshman Trevor Coleman made it back-to-back home runs for Mizzou as he followed Priday by connecting on his sixth homer of the season to cut the Texas lead to 3-2.
Missouri (32-12, 13-7) took the lead with a four-run top of the seventh inning. The first run came when junior Brock Bond drew a bases loaded walk to allow McKee to score. Lollis followed with a two-run single which put the Tigers ahead. Priday then picked up his second RBI with a sacrifice fly scoring Bond.
Texas scored a run in each of the first three innings, with the first two being unearned as errors on a pair of failed pick off attempts led to runs.
In the third inning, Kyle Russell led off the Longhorns' half of the inning with his 25th home run of the year. He then led off the bottom of the fifth inning with another homer. His 26 home runs lead the nation and Friday was his sixth two-home run game of the season.
Texas loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, but freshman Kyle Gibson struck out Nick Peoples to end the threat. In the bottom of the ninth, the Longhorns loaded the bases and this time scored the tying runs on a single by Preston Clark with two outs in the inning.
The three-game series will continue at 2 p.m. on Saturday, with the final game of the weekend set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
