Columbia, Mo. - In its first game as a ranked team, the No. 21 Missouri softball team (34-19, 10-2) shutout Iowa State (22-36, 1-12), 1-0, in game one of a doubleheader played on University Field. Missouri ace Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) was credited with her 17th win and fourth complete game shutout of the campaign.
The Tigers managed only four hits in the game, with junior Amanda Renth's first inning single up the middle driving in leadoff batter Leanne Bowers (Arnold, Mo.) for the one run lead. The RBI was Renth's 55th of the campaign and moves her to fourth alongside teammate Micaela Minner's (Sanger, Texas) 2005 total. Bowers reached base on balls to open the inning and stole second, her 25th base of the season and 70th of her career. The senior outfielder is one stolen bag shy of moving to seven in the Missouri career stolen bases record book.
Bruck, now 9-2 in Big 12 games, has thrown 68.1 innings of league work and struck out 58 of the batters she's faced. With a 1.33 ERA, all four of Bruck's solo shutouts have come in Big 12 games.
Game two of the doubleheader is expected to begin at approximately 5 p.m. (CT).
