Audrey Walton FINAL Results | Botts, Day 1 Results
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Despite cold and windy conditions and chilly rain in the late afternoon, the Missouri track and field teams hosted the final day of the 4th Annual Audrey Walton Combined Events and the first day of the 11th Annual Tom Botts Invitational in Columbia. Tiger Junior Kaela Rorvig (Columbia, Mo. / Hickman HS) won the women's heptathlon for the first title of her career. Former Tiger Hans Uldal took the men's decathlon for the third-straight year. In addition, Tiger Jason Morris won the men's hammer throw in the Tom Botts meet.
Rorvig, a junior, scored 4,815 points to win the heptathlon title. Rorvig scored personal bests in the first two events on Thursday with a 14.37 clocking in the 100-meter hurdles and a 5-½ clearance in the high jump. Tiger freshman Lindsey Boldt, a freshman, scored an impressive 4,613 points for a new personal best to place fourth. Another Tiger frosh, Lauren Begany was eighth at 4,398.
Uldal, now listed as a former Tiger since his eligibility had exhausted following the indoor season, won the Audrey Walton Decathlon for third-consecutive year, surviving the two cold days to score 7,332 points. Tiger senior Bjorn Sommerfeldt scored 7,027 points to place second and grab his first NCAA-provisional qualifying mark of the season. Freshman Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) scored a personal-best 6,694 points to place sixth. Impressively, on day two, Adcock gained new personal bests in three events - the 110-meter hurdles (14.88), the javelin (173-3, 52.80m), and the 1500-meter run (4:44.26) while running through a light rain and tout Easterly winds.
In addition, with competition in the Audrey Walton Combined Events and the Tom Botts Invitational, Mizzou was able to use its brand-new throws area for the first time in a meet. The first thrower was Sommerfeldt in the decathlon discus event.
The hammer cage was used for the first time as well with impressive marks posted in both men's and women's competition.
Missouri's Jason Morris (St. Louis, Mo.) won with a 212-2 (64.68m) mark. Morris, a junior ranked No. 9 in the country, has now posted 12 meets with over a 200-foot mark, one behind Mizzou's all-time leader in the category, Russ Bell (13). Morris now also owns the top-six performances all-time at Missouri. Chris Rohr, redshirting this season at Mizzou and throwing unattached, was second at 206-6 (62.94m). Junior Bobby Musil was third at 193-8 (59.03m), throwing a season's best.
Junior Elizabeth Robe finished second at 168-4 (51.32m) in the women's hammer. Tiger junior Shernelle Nicholls was third at 168-0. Purdue's Astin Steward won the first hammer competition in the new facility with a 193-5 mark (58.96m).
