Stringer Leads Tigers Past Shockers in First Outdoor Game

Columbia, Mo. - Led by junior hurler Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.), the Missouri Tiger Softball team topped Wichita State 8-5 in its fist outdoor game of the season in the first game of a double header played at University Field. The Tigers used a four run fourth inning, and homeruns by junior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) and senior Sara Stringer (Auxvasse, Mo.) to pull away from the Shockers. Credited with the win, Bruck pitched six innings, allowing five runs and struck out seven batters. With the win Bruck improved to 6-1 on the season.
Renth started the scoring early for the Tigers, knocking with a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning. The homerun was the sixth on the season and fourth in the last four games for Renth, adding to her team leading RBI total of 25. Stringer's three run shot in the bottom of the fifth was her second of the season. Stringer finished with a team high four RBI for the game.
The Shockers responded to the Tigers four-run fifth inning with a three-run sixth keeping them in the game, but freshman pitcher Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to hold off Wichita State. Hainey allowed one hit, no runs and no walks.
Credited with the loss for the shockers was Margo Pruis who falls to 4-5 on the season. The Tigers knocked around Pruis in the latter innings as she gave up six runs on seven hits while walking three Tiger batters.
With a combined one run scored in the first three innings, the two teams exploded for 12 in the final four innings. The teams will play again at 4:00 p.m.
