COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - The Missouri baseball team ran its winning streak to 11 with a 9-2 win over Cleveland State on Saturday night at Taylor Stadium. The game, which was originally scheduled for 2 p.m., started four hours after the initial start time because of morning snow fall in Columbia.
Missouri (17-5) scored runs in each of the first three innings to build a 6-0 lead. Sophomore Ryan Lollis extended hits hitting streak to six games with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put MU on the board.
The Tigers put up three unearned runs in the second inning, as two CSU errors and singles by freshman Aaron Senne and sophomore Lee Fischer helped Mizzou to a four-run lead. The advantage was six after Mizzou plated two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Lollis and freshman Kyle Mach led off the third with back-to-back singles and each would score later in the inning.
Lollis turned in a 3-for-4 outing for the second-straight game.
After Cleveland State (2-13) got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth, Missouri answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to return the lead to six.
Junior Dan Pietroburgo drove in MU's final run by delivering an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Sophomore Rick Zagone improved to 3-0 on the year, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six in 6.2 innings on the mound. Sophomore Ryan Garbanzo relieved Zagone, pitching the final 2.1 innings of the victory.
The Tigers have won 12 of their last 13 games and will conclude the three-game series with CSU at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Tigers open up Big 12 Conference action by traveling to Lincoln, Neb. for a three-game set against Nebraska starting next Thursday.
