
Tigers Extend Streak to Nine

COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - The Missouri baseball team ran its winning streak to nine games with a 6-3 win over Western Illinois on Thursday at Taylor Stadium. With the victory, the Tigers have won 10 of their last 11 games and remain undefeated at home, moving to 7-0 at Taylor Stadium this season.
The Tigers (15-5) lead 3-0 after two innings, getting a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first before adding a run in the second inning.
After a WIU (9-10) run in the fourth inning cut the lead to two, Mizzou responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Juniors Evan Frey and Brock Bond delivered back-to-back singles to start the sixth and then senior John McKee connected on a double to drive in Frey.
McKee drove in another run in the seventh inning with an RBI single allowing Frey to score from third. Earlier in the inning, Frey reached on a triple which drove in senior Gary Arndt.
McKee finished 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Arndt also recorded a pair of hits in the win.
Senior Stephan Holst allowed just one run on five hits and struck out four in 4.1 innings of work. Sophomore Scooter Hicks picked up his second win of the season, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, striking our three.
The Tigers will open a three-game series against Cleveland State at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Taylor Stadium. The series will continue with games at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
