COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - Mizzou put up 19 runs on 20 hits as it opened the second five-game homestand of the season with a 19-1 win over Saint Louis University on Wednesday night at Taylor Stadium. The win extends the Tigers' winning streak to eight games and MU has won nine of its last 10 contests.
The Tigers had 15 players either start or enter the lineup during the game and 13 of those scored at least one run. The run total is the most since Missouri plated 19 against Mississippi Valley State on May 7, 2006.
Senior Gary Arndt, in the lineup after missing five games with a sore shoulder, was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Six other Tigers had multiple hits and seven drove in at least two runs including sophomore Kurt Calvert who had three RBI.
Sophomore Ian Berger picked up his second win of the year, allowing one run on just four hits in five innings on the mound. Junior Lendsey Thompson and sophomore Ryan Gargano pitched the final four innings, allowing just one hit to the Billikens.
The Tigers jumped ahead of SLU early, scoring five runs in each of the first two innings, chasing the starting pitcher for the Billikens, Eric Brewer, from the game after just four batters. Brewer did not record an out, allowing three runs on a hit and three walks.
Mizzou will continue its stretch of five-consecutive days of games by hosting Western Illinois at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday before welcoming Cleveland State to Taylor Stadium for a three-game series beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
