Missouri's offense got off to a slow start in the team's season opener, as the Tigers began the game one-for-eight from the floor, including zero-for-six on three-point attempts.
After Central Michigan jumped out to a 21-17 lead with 9:13 to play in the first half, the Missouri offense erupted with a 12-0 run capped off by a Leo Lyons jumper that made the score 29-21 in favor of Missouri with 6:09 left to play...DeMarre Carroll scored 10 of the Tigers 12 points during the stretch.
In his first real action as a Tiger, DeMarre Carroll got off to a sensational start, as the Vanderbilt transfer scored 17 first-half points on seven-of-nine shooting...Carroll also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in the first half.
The Missouri defensive pressure forced 11 Central Michigan turnovers in the first half that led to 16 Tiger points...Compare that to Missouri's three turnovers and the Chippewas' six points off of those turnovers.
Carroll's lay-up with 3:55 to play in the second half brought his points total to 23, surpassing his previous career best of 22 points in a game against Kentucky on February 11, 2006.
Carroll's 23 points in his Missouri debut were also the third highest points total for any Tiger in their debut in Missouri basketball history.
Lyons tied his career high of 18 points on a free throw attempt with 3:03 to play in the second half...He previously set the mark in a game on November 16, 2007 against Davidson...Lyons also tied his career highs of field goal attempts (9) and field goals made (8) in a game.
With Carroll scoring a team-high 23 points and Lyons adding 18, Missouri had at least two players score in doubles digits for the 20th straight game dating back to the 2006-07 season...The last time Missouri did not have two players score in double digits was on December 19 against Illinois.
Missouri's starting forward combination of Carroll and Lyons combined to go 18-for-21 (86 percent) from the floor during the contest, contributing 41 of the team's 87 points.
Stefhon Hannah's pair of free throws with 0:33 to play brought his point total to 10, marking the ninth time in the last 10 contests dating back to last season that Missouri's point guard has scored in double digits.
Keon Lawrence scored in double digits for the ninth game in a row after the sophomore hit a pair of free throws with 0:15 to play...Lawrence was last held under 10 points on February 6, 2007 against Iowa State
With Monday's victory, Missouri improved to 2-0 all-time in regular season openers under head coach Mike Anderson...The 87-76 victory made the Tigers a perfect 9-0 in the month of November under Coach Anderson...Missouri also improved to 8-2 all time versus the Mid-America Conference.
The victory over Central Michigan also extended the Tigers home winning streak against non-Big 12 opponents to 19 games...Missouri last loss in Columbia against a non-conference opponent in the 2005-06 season opener against Sam Houston State.
The Missouri defensive pressure haunted Central Michigan all night, as the Tigers managed to force 18 turnovers that lead to 22 Missouri points...The Tigers also forced five charges in the contest.
