
Missouri Falls At Kansas State, 81-66

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Tiffany Brooks scored a season-high 26 points but Missouri fell to Kansas State, 81-66, at Bramlage Coliseum Saturday night.
Missouri (13-4, 1-3 Big 12) shot just 39 percent while Kansas State (14-2, 2-1) made 53 percent of its shots and outscored the Tiger 50-26 in the paint.
Brooks made her final return to Manhattan memorable as she scored 16 in the second half, including a stretch of 10 straight Tiger points. It was her fifth game this year with at least 20 points and her third straight.
Carlynn Savant had 14 points and EeTisha Riddle recorded her second-straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
"I think our chemistry was off the entire game," MU coach Cindy Stein said. "We still have plenty of games left. We have started 0-4 before and still gone to the tournament.."
Marlies Gipson led four K-State players in double figures with 18. Claire Coggins had 16 including three 3-pointers.
After Missouri got an offensive putback from Alyssa Hollins to open the contest, Kansas State made four of its first five shots to claim an early 9-7 lead. With the Wildcats ahead 14-12 just over seven minutes into the half, Brittany Dietz sparked an 8-0 run with six of her eight first-half points to put K-State ahead 22-12.
The Tigers battled back and on the strength of its defensive pressure used a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 28-25 with 2:06 remaining. That was the difference as the teams headed into the locker room with K-State ahead 32-29.
KSU shot 52 percent in the half and held a 21-15 edge on the glass. Brooks and Riddle combined for 20 of the Tigers' 29 points.
Coming out of the break, the Wildcats got a basket from Marlies Gipson to extend their lead to 34-29 but a three and bucket on the block from Savant tied it at 34-34. The teams traded hoops over the next four possessions heading into the under 16:00 media timeout knotted at 38.
KSU led 42-40 and then got layups from Lehning and McCullough to go up 46-40 and force an MU time out with 11:47 to play.
KSU then went on a 14-5 run to lead 56-45 with 8:50 to play. The Tiger got the margin down to nine on two occasions but couldn't mount the big rally they needed.
Missouri returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Texas Tech. Tip-off at the United Spirit Arena is set for 7 p.m. CST.
