FULLERTON, Calif.-- - The most successful postseason run in recent history for Missouri came to an end as Cal State Fullerton handed the Tigers a 9-1 loss on Saturday to take the NCAA Super Regional victory and advance to the College World Series. Mizzou finishes the year with a 35-28 record after reaching its first-ever NCAA Super Regional.
Cal State Fullerton's starting pitcher Lauren Gagnier carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, when senior J.C. Field homered with two outs in the bottom of the eighth for the Tigers' first hit. The homer was Field's fourth of the year.
Sophomore Evan Frey followed Field with a single and senior Trevor Helms had a pinch-hit single to lead off the ninth as MU matched a season low with three hits in the game.
Gagnier struck out nine, allowing one run on two hits and walking just one in eight innings on the mound.
Cal State Fullerton jumped out to an early lead with a three-run top of the first inning. Two of the runs were unearned after a Tiger error allowed Justin Taylor, the Titans' lead off batter, to reach safely. Danny Dorn drove in the first two runs of the game with a two-run double. Dorn would score in the inning on a single by Jared Clark.
The lead was stretched to five as CSF scored a run in the fourth inning then added one in the fifth. The Titans then put up four runs in the seventh inning on five hits, including a pair of RBI doubles.
