COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - Baylor scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead over Missouri and held on to even the series at one with the final game of the three-game set to take place on Sunday at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers drew 11 walks on the day, one short of their season high, but left 13 runners on base.
With the score tied at four in the seventh inning, the Bears' Kevin Russo doubled to open the inning. Russo then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Beamer Weems. The run was the fourth driven in by Weems in the game.
Mizzou opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Baylor (27-18, 10-10 Big 12) then responded with four runs --all unearned-- in the top of the second inning. A pair of Tiger errors and a two-out, three-run double by Weems led to the four runs.
Missouri (20-21, 8-12) would tie the game at four with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning. The Tigers had just one hit in the inning, but drew four walks, including a walk to senior J.C. Field with the bases loaded to force in a run. Senior Derek Chambers had the lone hit in the inning, an RBI single with one out.
Tiger freshman Aaron Crow did not allow an earned run in 4.2 innings on the mound as the four unearned runs in the second inning we all that were credited to him. Senior Taylor Parker pitched 3.1 innings in relief before David Cales came on to pitch the ninth.
Sophomore Brock Bond had a pair of hits against Baylor, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The series will conclude at 1 p.m. on Sunday. All Mizzou games can be heard on KTGR 1580-AM in Columbia and at KTGR.com. Live video will also be available through Mizzou All-Access on mutigers.com. For tickets call 1-800-CAT-PAWS (884-PAWS in Columbia) or visit mutigers.com.
