NORMAN, Okla. - - A six-run bottom of the ninth inning gave Oklahoma an 8-6 come-from-behind victory over Mizzou on Saturday in Norman. Five Tigers had two hits in the game, including sophomore Jacob Priday, who was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, but OU rallied in its last at-bat to take the win.
With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, OU's Kevin Smith hit a two-run home run over the left centerfield wall, capping off a ninth inning in which the Sooners had four hits, including the homer and two doubles, and scored six times to come back from a four-run deficit.
The loss is the eighth-straight defeat for the Tigers, who fall to 16-17 on the season and 6-8 in the Big 12 Conference. Oklahoma improves to 27-10 overall and 7-4 in the conference.
Freshman Aaron Crow pitched 6.0 innings, allowing just two runs on six hits and was in line for his first-career victory until the OU comeback. All five of Crow's strikeouts came in two innings, as he struck out the side in the fourth and fanned the final two batters he faced in the game for the final outs of the sixth inning.
The Tigers, who had just one hit through the first three innings, broke onto the scoreboard with three runs in the fourth inning. Senior Zane Taylor and Priday reached with singles. Then, with two outs in the inning, sophomore Brock Bond doubled to drive home Taylor and senior Trevor Helms followed with a single to drive in Priday and Bond, giving the Tigers the lead, 3-2.
Mizzou scored one in the eighth inning on a pair of doubles by Priday and Bond. In the ninth, sophomores Gary Arndt and Evan Frey singled and would each score in the inning, giving the Tigers the 6-2 lead before the Sooners rally in the bottom of the inning.
Taylor, Priday, Bond, Helms and Arndt all had two hits for MU and Priday and Helms each had a pair of RBI. Priday's 2-for-4 day extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The series will conclude with the final game of the weekend at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Norman. The game, as all Mizzou games are, can be heard on KTGR 1580-AM in Columbia and at KTGR.com.
