
Tigers Fall Short in Comeback Attempt Against Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. - - Despite a late rally by Mizzou, scoring three runs in the eighth inning, the Tigers fell to Oklahoma, 6-4 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series in Norman, Okla.
Mizzou has lost its last seven games and falls to 16-16 on the season and 6-7 in the Big 12. The Sooners improve to 26-10 overall and 6-4 in the conference.
With one out in the top of the eighth and Oklahoma leading 6-4, Mizzou strung together four consecutive hits putting up three runs in the frame to cut the lead to two. Senior Trevor Helms had an RBI triple and scored when junior John McKee, on as a pinch hitter, doubled. Sophomore Gary Arndt then drove in the final run in the inning with a single to left.
The Tigers put a run on the board in the first inning, as senior Zane Taylor and junior Hunter Mense had back-to-back doubles with one out. Mense added another double in the fourth inning and finished 2-for-5 on the day.
The Sooners answered with a run in the bottom half of the first. They then scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Five straight Oklahoma batters singled after the first two batters to the plate were retired in the third. The last two hits in the inning were a pair of 2-run singles by Kevin Smith and Ryan Rohlinger.
Helms and senior Derek Chambers each had two hits on Friday for MU and sophomore Jacob Priday singled to lead off eighth to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
Junior Nathan Culp pitched seven innings for the Tigers, allowing six runs on nine hits. He struck out two and walked two. He has pitched at least seven innings in five of his 10 starts this season.
