Columbia, Mo. - Taking on No. 20 Baylor (21-14, 3-2) in the first of a two game Big 12 series, the Missouri softball team lost, 7-0, at University Field and fell to 18-14 overall and 2-1 in league play. Sophomore pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) was credited with the loss (16-9) after hurling five innings and giving up four earned runs off eight hits. Bruck fanned four batters before being relieved by freshman righty Megan Dennis (Liberty, Mo.).
Scoreless through three innings, the Bears pulled ahead on Chelsi Lake's fourth inning two run homer over the wall in right center. Battling a full count, Lake drove in Brette Reagan from second base. Earlier in the inning, Reagan reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in a double play where runners at second and third were tagged out.
Baylor scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth and one in the seventh off six hits and one Missouri error.
Redshirt sophomore Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) came up with Missouri's only extra base hit of the day. Leading off in the bottom of the fourth, Minner crushed a double to deep left field but was stranded on three straight Tiger outs. The double was Minner's 10th of the season and ties the total she set for the entire 2005 season.
Missouri's second game against No. 20 Baylor has been moved up one hour and will begin at Noon Sunday, April 2, on University Field.
