Columbia, Mo. - Playing the first of three games against No. 21 Louisville, the Missouri softball team lost, 2-0, to the Cardinals at University Field. With the loss, Missouri falls to 15-9 on the season while Louisville improves to 15-2.
Missouri pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) held the Cardinals to only two hits in six innings before giving up three shots in the top of the seventh to help Louisville take the lead. Bruck struckout leadoff batter Kassie Stanfill and walked her fourth batter of the day, first baseman Sarah Totten. Leslie Garland pinch ran for Totten and advanced to third on a standup double to left field by centerfielder Kristi Cunningham. Third baseman Audrey Rendon drove in two runs with her single, bringing up Candi Hicks who notched Louisville's third straight hit of the inning that sent Rendon to third. Hitting from the three hole, Courtney Moore reached first on a fielder's choice in which Rendon was tagged out at the plate allowing Hicks to reach third. The inning came to an end as Lacy Wood's fielder's choice resulted in Moore's out at second on the throw from Missouri shortstop Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.).
Bruck (13-7) twirled her fourth complete game of the season and struckout three Cardinals. Out of her 110 pitches, 65 went down as strikes.
Notching five hits in the game, it marked only fifth time of the season that Missouri has been shutout.
