
Tigers Finish Doubleheader Sweep with 11-0 Game Two Win

The No. 12 Missouri Tigers finished off a sweep of their doubleheader with Louisiana-Monroe, with an 11-0 win over the Indians on Friday night. Junior Nathan Culp cruised to his second win of the season, striking out seven and walking none in seven innings of scoreless work, allowing just three hits.
The Tigers did not allow a hit after the fourth inning of game two and in the doubleheader, MU pitches allowed just one earned run in 18 innings.
After a scoreless first three innings of game two, Missouri put up eight runs in the next two innings to take control of the game. The Tigers scored five times in the top of the fourth inning, sending 11 batters to the plate in the inning. Seven of the first eight Tiger batters to the plate in the fourth reached, with the only out recorded coming on a sacrifice bunt by senior J.C. Field.
Sophomore Gary Arndt had an RBI single with one out in the fourth and senior Trevor Helms followed by drawing a bases loaded walk to drive in a run. Senior Zane Taylor then singled to drive in two and was followed by sophomore Brock Bond, who added an RBI single of is own.
Mizzou kept the momentum going with three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it an 8-0 lead. The lead swelled to 10-0 when junior Hunter Mense tripled in the top of the seventh, driving in Taylor and Bond, who each reached on fielder's choices.
Meanwhile, Culp was in control on the mound, at one point striking out four-straight batters, including striking out the side in the bottom of the seventh inning. He faced the minimum in five of the seven innings he pitched. The only two innings in which he faced more than three batters was the fourth and fifth innings, where he faced four in each of those stanzas.
Senior Travis Wendte pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and senior Taylor Parker retired the side in order in the ninth inning to finish off the victory.
The Tigers added a run in the ninth as freshman a Mense sacrifice fly scored freshman David Cales.
Missouri's leadoff batter reached in seven of the nine innings and drew nine walks and had four batters hit by a pitch, to go along with the 10 hits.
The final game of the three-game series is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday. Freshman Aaron Crow is slated to take the mound for the Tigers. The game will air on KTGR 1580-AM in Columbia and on the Web at KTGR.com.
