
Texas Takes Series Finale Over Mizzou

AUSTIN, Texas - - The Mizzou baseball team fell to Texas by a score of 6-1 on Sunday in the final game of the three-game series in Austin, Texas. With the win, the Longhorns take the series and hand MU just its second series loss of the season.
Missouri (31-13, 11-7) fell behind early, as the Longhorns put up four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. The first four UT batters to come to the plate reached safely. Two runs scored on a double by Will Crouch and another run scored on a sacrifice fly by Chance Wheeless. The final run of the inning came on a single by Taylor Teagarden to drive in Carson Kainer, who had reached on a double.
Texas (37-9, 13-7) added a run in the second inning as Nick Peoples singled and would score on a single by Seth Johnston.
Wheeless put the Longhorn's sixth run on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
MU was held scoreless until it plated a run in the eighth inning. Junior Derek Chambers led off the inning with a single and would score on a single by junior Trevor Helms.
Chambers had two of the Tigers' four hits on the day, finishing 2-for-2 with a run scored.
The Tigers will return to Taylor Stadium for a midweek matchup with Southwest Missouri State at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will be a rematch of last Tuesday's game in Springfield, Mo., in which SMS defeated MU, 2-1.
Next weekend, Missouri will travel to Lincoln, Neb., for a three-game Big 12 Conference series with Nebraska.
