Mizzou Falls to Southeast Missouri State in 10 Innings

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - - A three-run homer by Southeast Missouri State's Ernie Bracamonte in the 10th inning, gave SEMO an 8-5 win over No. 19 Mizzou on Wednesday in Cape Girardeau, Mo. After having a 15-game winning streak snapped on Sunday, MU has now lost two-straight games.
Southeast Missouri State jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and one in the second for a 3-0 advantage after two innings.
Mizzou (23-6) got on the board with a run in the third and took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth. Two runs scored on a two-out double by junior Trevor Helms, driving in sophomore Gary Arndt and junior Zane Taylor. Helms finished 4-for-6 on the night with two RBI and three runs scored.
The lead was short lived, as the Redhawks (11-16) answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Helms scored the tying run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by junior Derek Chambers. It would remain tied at five until Bracamonte's walk-off home run, his second round-tripper of the game.
The Tigers had runners at first and second with one out in the top of the tenth, but were unable to push the go-ahead run across the plate.
Mizzou returns to Big 12 Conference play with a three-game series this weekend at Taylor Stadium starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sophomore Max Scherzer will be on the mound on Friday for the Tigers.
