ST. LOUIS, Mo. - - No. 24 Missouri extended its winning streak to 13 games with a 16-8 win over Saint Louis University on Wednesday night in St. Louis. The winning streak is the longest since the Tigers won 13 straight in 2003.
Mizzou (21-4, 3-0 Big 12) scored at least 10 runs in a game for the 16th time this season and recorded 15 runs for the sixth game this year.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead, putting four runs across the plate in the top of the first inning. There were two Billiken errors in the inning and three-straight singles by junior James Boone, freshman Jacob Priday and junior Zane Taylor.
SLU (3-17) cut the lead to one after three innings and after MU scored once in the top of the fourth inning, the Billikens answered with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to tie the game at five.
The game remained tied until the sixth when junior Derek Chambers led off with a single and moved to second when sophomore John McKee walked. The runners moved up a base on a passed ball and Chambers would score on a wild pitch to give the Tigers the lead. They added to the lead as three more runs would score in the inning for the second four-run inning of the game.
Mizzou would continue to add to its lead with a third four-run inning in the seventh. The Tigers would add a pair of run in the eighth inning and one more in the ninth.
Taylor and sophomore Hunter Mense each had three hits on the night. Mense drove in a pair of runs and scored three times. Priday had two hits, three RBI and four runs scored. Chambers finished with two hits, extending his hitting streak to 10 games.
