
Mizzou Sweeps Wildcats With 3-2 Win in Series Finale

MANHATTAN, Kan. - - Mizzou closed out a three-game sweep of Kansas State with a 3-2 win in the finale of the weekend series on Sunday in Manhattan, Kan. The win is the 20th of the season for MU and extends its win streak to 12 games.
The Tigers (20-4, 3-0 Big 12) are 3-0 in the Big 12 Conference for the first time since 1998. That year, they also swept KSU to open the conference season.
Junior Doug Mathis started and turned in his longest outing of the season, going 7.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter to record the win and move to 2-2 on the season.
MU junior Bryson LeBlanc was hit by a pitch to lead of the game and advanced to second on a single by junior Derek Chambers, which extended his hitting streak to nine games. LeBlanc and Chambers each moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore John McKee and LeBlanc scored when sophomore Hunter Mense grounded out to third.
KSU's Joe Roundy led off the bottom of the second with a home run to tie the score at one.
McKee gave the lead back to the Tigers as he connected on his fourth home run on the season. He joins junior James Boone and freshman Jacob Priday as the team leaders in home runs on the year. McKee was 2-for-3 with the home run, one RBI and two runs scored on the day. He scored Missouri's third run in the sixth inning, when he scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Zane Taylor.
The Wildcats (13-10, 1-5 Big 12) would add a run with two outs in the ninth, but junior Travis Wendte was able to close the door, recording the final out of the game and picking up his first save of the season.
Up next for Mizzou is a trip to St. Louis, Mo. to take on Saint Louis University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Next weekend, Texas Tech visits Taylor Stadium for a three-game series starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Game two of the series is at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday with the final game of the three-game set will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
