
Mizzou Closes Out Sweep of Youngstown State

COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - Mizzou recorded its first three-game sweep of the season after defeating Youngstown State 12-2 on Monday in the series finale. The Tigers outscored YSU 42-2 in the three games and have scored in double digits in the last five games. They have scored at least 10 runs in 11 of their 17 games this season.
Missouri has won five straight games and seven of its last eight.
After Youngstown State put up a run in the top of the first inning, the Tigers took the lead scoring two runs on a double by junior James Boone in the bottom of the first. Boone was 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Missouri led off the third inning with back-to-back hits from Boone and sophomore Hunter Mense. Each would score later in the inning and later in the innings a third run would score when sophomore John McKee walked to drive in senior Cosme Caballero.
Four more runs would cross the plate for Mizzou in the sixth, with two runs scoring on a double by Mense.
The Tigers would add a run in the seventh inning and another two runs in the eighth.
Junior Abel Newton started on the mound for MU for the first time this season. He went four innings, allowing just three hits and just one earned run. Newton struck out three and recorded the victory for the Tigers.
