
Tigers Extend Winning Streak to Five

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - - Mizzou won its fifth straight game, recording a 10-1 win over Indiana State on Saturday in day two of the Service Academy Spring Classic in Millington, Tenn. The Tigers reached double digits in runs scored for the fifth-consecutive game and has outscored their opponents 56-6 in the last four games. For the season, they have outscored its opponents 80-25.
After a 25-run outing against Navy on Friday, Mizzou (6-1) picked up where it left off by putting up five runs in the bottom of the first inning on Saturday. For the second straight game, the Tigers knocked out the opposing pitcher in the opening inning. The first two batters for MU in the first inning walked. After an RBI single by sophomore Hunter Mense, junior James Boone connected for his first homer of the season, a three-run shot to left.
Boone has had a hit in all six of MU's games this season and has a nine game hitting streak dating back to last season.
Three errors by Indiana State helped MU score two in the second inning and two hit batters and two walks in the third inning led to a run for Mizzou without a hit in the inning.
Sophomore Nathan Culp recorded his first win of the season, allowing only one run on three hits in six innings of work. He struck out five and walked two. Junior Abel Newton pitched the final three innings to record the first save of his career. Newton did not allow a run and gave up two hits.
Missouri will return to USA Stadium at 3 p.m. on Sunday to take on Memphis. Junior Nick Admire is scheduled to make his second start of the season on the mound. Following that, the Tigers will travel to Murray, Kent. to face Murray State at 2 p.m. on Monday in a game recently added to the schedule.
