
Kreklow Wins 500th As A Collegiate Volleyball Coach

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri women's volleyball coach Wayne Kreklow won his the 500th match as a collegiate coach Wednesday night, as the No. 10 Tigers took down Oklahoma in a 3-0 sweep. Mizzou (14-2, 8-2 Big 12) defeated Oklahoma (5-14, 0-10) 30-24, 30-26, and 30-22. Jessica Vander Kooi and Na Yang led the Tigers with 11 kills apiece as senior Lisa Boyd spread five blocks. In addition, junior Nicole Wilson was credited with three service aces.
Senior Lindsey Hunter once again had a solid setting night, tallying 40 assists as the team racked 50 kills. Hunter also had eight digs and two blocks assists on the evening.
Kreklow's 500th win as a collegiate coach are a result of his coaching days at both assistant and head coaching levels with both men's and women's teams at Missouri and Columbia College. Kreklow's official NCAA head coaching-record now stands at 281-31, counting only co-head coaching or coaching days with women's teams.
In game one, Mizzou came out with a 10-4 lead on solid hitting by each of Tigers' five main hitters and two block assists by Boyd. The Sooners fought back with two triple-blocks and eventually came within one at 14-13. Mizzou's Wilson was credited with a kill to make the score 18-15 and went back to serve. As a result, Mizzou scored on a Vander Kooi-Boyd block and two aces by Wilson (one on a OU rotation error), to lead 21-15. The Sooners fought to within two again at 25-23, but the Tigers closed the book on the opening frame with five-consecutive points, three coming from Yang, to win 30-23. The Tigers had their best hitting percentage game of the match in the opener, marking .318.
In the second frame, Oklahoma would take the lead at 3-2 after three-straight Sooners points to notch their first lead of the match. Mizzou responded with four points of their own to lead 6-3. The teams traded point-for-point for quite a while with the Tigers not gaining more than two points at a time. In a game that neither team really found much momentum, the Tigers won game two 30-26, ending the game by getting eight of the game's final 13 points.
The third game saw the Tigers up 20-14 before Oklahoma scored on three-straight points to come within three at 20-17. At the 23-20 mark, Wilson took control, scoring four kills and a service ace in the Tigers' final seven points to win 30-22. The Tigers held the Sooners to .050 hitting in the frame. Vander Kooi tallied seven kills in the stanza.
The Tigers had an off-and-on night serving, as with a positive of five service aces came from the match, the negative came with 12 service errors. Also, Mizzou was responsible for nine unforced hitting errors.
Next, the Tigers will travel to Ames, Iowa, to take on Iowa State, Saturday, at 7:30 p.m. Please note the time; the start was pushed back 30 minutes earlier this week due to a football conflict.
