COLUMBIA, Mo. -- - The Mizzou baseball squad dropped the finale of its three-game series with No. 1 Texas by a score of 16-0 in seven innings on Sunday at Taylor Stadium. After MU held the Longhorns to just one run in the first two games of the weekend, the Texas bats exploded for 16 runs on 13 hits in the final game.
The game ended after the seventh inning because of the conference's run rule which is in effect on the final day of a series. Sunday's game was the second time MU has been shutout this season.
The Longhorns scored runs in each of the first four innings, including a nine-run fourth inning. Taylor Teagarden and Seth Johnston homered for UT on Sunday and every batter in the Texas lineup had at least one hit and four had two hits.
Mizzou's bats, on the other hand, turned cold. The Tigers had just three hits in game three after a combined 22 in the first two games of the weekend.
Sophomore Nick Admire started for the Tigers and took his first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1.
Mizzou is now 27-17-1 on the year and 6-11 in the Big 12 Conference, while Texas improves to 42-8 on the year and 14-6 in the Big 12.
Next Friday, Missouri will start the first of two back-to-back conference road trips. The Tigers will face Texas Tech next weekend, with the first game starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. All of Mizzou's games can be heard on the ZRG Radio Network (1580 KTGR in Columbia) Tex Little and Luke Cassis providing the commentary. The broadcasts can also be heard online www.KTGR.
