
Mizzou Falls in Pitchers Dual

COLLEGE STATION, Texas-- - Texas A&M handed Mizzou its first shutout of the season, defeating the Tigers 1-0 in College Station on Friday night. Senior pitcher Danny Hill turned in another strong performance on the mound for Mizzou, allowing just one run on three hits.
The Aggies scored the game's only run when Cory Patton led off the bottom of the second inning with his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot over the right field fence. Hill, rebounded to retire the next three batters.
The homer by Patton in the second was the lone hit allowed by Hill in the first four innings. Hill struck out four and did not walk a batter in taking the loss. Hill has pitched more than six innings in each of his five starts in Big 12 games and has a 2.31 ERA in conference games.
Missouri (24-15-1, 4-9) out-hit the Aggies 7-3 and had runners on base in every inning except the first and ninth.. The Tigers grounded into double plays to end three consecutive innings, as the Aggies turned inning-ending double plays in the top of the second, third and fourth innings.
In the fifth inning, Mizzou had a runner on third, as senior Cody Ehlers was on third with one out, but the Tigers could not push him across plate. Sophomore Gary Arndt led off the sixth inning with a double, but was thrown out as he attempted to advance to third on a fly out by Zane Taylor for the fourth double play of the night for the Aggies.
Texas A&M starter Jason Meyer moved to 8-0 on the year, taking the complete-game victory.
The game was the 14th of the Tiger's season this season decided by one run, as they drop to 8-6 in those games. It is also the first time MU has been shutout since Baylor defeated the Mizzou 11-0 at last year's Big 12 Tournament.
Game two of the series against the Aggies will get underway at 7 p.m. on Saturday with the final game of the series set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
