SEATTLE, Wash.-- - The Missouri baseball team had its five-game winning streak snapped as Washington downed the Tigers 11-6 on Saturday in Seattle. It is the first win by the Huskies over MU in the last five meetings and the Tigers drop to 11-3 on the year.
Washington (7-4) got to junior RHP Erik Dessau, who entered the game with a 3-0 record and a 0.45 ERA.
Husky LF Zach Clem got UW on the board first with a solo home run in the second inning. The homer was the first given up by Dessau this season. Washington built the lead to four with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brent Lillibridge's double drove in a pair of baserunners for the biggest hit of the inning.
After putting 16 runs on the board on Friday night, the Tigers were held scoreless for the first four innings, before putting a run across the plate in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore RF James Boone reached base on an error to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI-single by senior 2B Jeremy Hernandez.
The Tigers had a chance to put more runs on the board in the fifth, as they loaded the bases with one out, but were unable to push any more runs across the board.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Huskies put together another three-run inning, all of the runs coming on a home run by right fielder Matt Tucker.
Mizzou loaded the bases again in the top of the sixth inning, but for the second straight inning, left three runners on base.
Washington added three runs in the bottom of the eighth as pinch hitter Nick Batkoski doubled to drive in three baserunners.
The Tigers seemed to find their offense in the ninth inning, scoring four runs on five hits. With one out, senior LF Ryan Rallo hit a solo home run to left, his second homer of the series and his fourth of the season. Rallo also extended his hitting streak to 11 games with the homer.
Senior 1B Cody Ehlers followed Rallo with a double and advanced to third on a single by freshman pinch hitter Gary Arndt. Ehlers would score on a sacrifice fly by senior C Brad Flanders. Sophomore RF James Boone doubled with two outs to drive in Arndt and junior 3B Cosme Caballero doubled to score Boone. The double extended Caballero's hit streak to nine games.
Dessau (3-1) allowed two runs on three hits in 3.1 innings. He struck out three and walked three.
UW starting pitcher, Tim Lincecum kept the Tigers in check, as he allowed just one unearned run and struck out 11 batters in six innings.
The final game of the three game-series will start at 1 p.m. CST on Sunday. The game time for Sunday has been moved up one hour from the originally scheduled time to accommodate Mizzou's travel arrangements. The ZRG Radio Network (1580 KTGR in Columbia) will carry all of the games with Tex Little and Luke Cassis providing the commentary. The broadcasts can also be heard online www.KTGR.com.
