
Kansas State Takes Win Over Tigers in Extra Innings

COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - Kansas State made it two straight over Mizzou, by defeating the Tigers 6-4 in 11 innings on Saturday at Taylor Stadium. The Wildcats scored two runs in the ninth inning to send the game to extra innings and then put two runs across the plate in the 11th to take the victory.
The Tigers (19-6-1, 0-2) got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. The big hit of the inning was a 2-run home run off the bat of senior 1B Cody Ehlers. The homer was the seventh of the season for Ehlers and extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
After KSU (19-6, 2-0) scored a run in top of the fourth, Mizzou answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a single by Sophomore 2B Zane Taylor which drove in senior 3B Jeremy Hernandez who had led off the inning with a walk and scored all the way from first.
Taylor was 4-for-5 on the day with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.
Missouri held a 4-2 lead going into the ninth inning and had Kansas State down to its last strike. But with a 3-2 count with two outs, KSU's Josh Henrich doubled to right to drive in two runs to tie the game. The Tigers got two baserunners on in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to get any runs, sending the game into extra innings.
In the eleventh, the Wildcats scored two runs, one on a walk and the second on a wild pitch, to take the 6-4 lead.
MU got a lead off double from senior C Brad Flanders and had runners on the corners in the bottom the inning, but were retired on a double play to end the game.
Junior RHP Erik Dessau continued his strong pitching, turning in 7.1 inning of work, allowing just two runs on four hits and leaving the game with the lead.
