
Tigers Drop Big 12 Opener to Kansas State

COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - Mizzou opened up Big 12 Conference play by falling to Kansas State 5-3 on Friday at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning, but were unable to put runs on the board in any other inning.
KSU shortstop Ryan Saltzgaber got the Wildcats on the board first with a solo home run in the top of third inning.
Mizzou answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, which started with sophomore CF Tyler Williams being hit by a pitch. He would score on a sacrifice fly by sophomore 2B Trevor Helms. Then with two outs, the Tigers put together three consecutive hits to put two more runs on the board. Senior LF Ryan Rallo doubled and was followed by senior DH Lee Laskowski who tripled to drive in Rallo. Senior 1B Cody Ehlers then singled in Laskowski.
The Wildcats tied it up with two runs in the top of the fourth and took the lead by adding two more runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Senior RHP Danny Hill allowed five runs on six hits in 6.2 innings of work. He struck out four and walked three before sophomore LHP Taylor Parker entered in the seventh. Parker did not allow a run or hit in his 2.1 innings of work.
Laskowski extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a 1-for-4 night with an RBI and a runs scored. The streak is the longest for Mizzou this season. Ehlers and Boone each extended hitting streak of their own. Ehlers has had a hit in 12 straight games and Boone has a nine-game streak. Rallo finished the night 2-for-4 with a run scored.
