
Tiger Baseball Defeats Chicago State 8-1

COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - The Mizzou baseball squad will go for the sweep of Chicago State on Sunday after taking game two of the series, 8-1 on Saturday at Taylor Stadium. The Tigers (17-4-1) improve to 6-2 at home this season with the victory.
After three and a half inning of scoreless baseball, MU finally broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore 2B Zane Taylor and senior DH Ryan Rallo teamed up for back-to-back singles with one out in the inning. Senior 1B Cody Ehlers then doubled to drive in Taylor and Rallo scored on a sacrifice fly by senior LF Lee Laskowski.
Chicago State (1-15) put its lone run of the day on the board in the fifth as Brian Grippo doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by B.J. Guyse.
Up by one run, Mizzou the extended it lead to five with a four-run sixth inning with the help of five hits and a Cougar error. Laskowski had an RBI double and sophomore RF James Boone drove in a run with a single. Senior 3B Jeremy Hernandez added an sacrifice fly in the inning.
With the double, Laskowski extends his hitting streak to 12 games. He was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBI. Ehlers also extend his hitting streak to 10 games with a 3-for-4 day adding two runs scored and one RBI.
The Tigers added two insurance runs in the eighth inning when Hernandez hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field. Hernandez finished the day 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored after going 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored on Friday.
Junior RHP Erik Dessau improved to 5-1 on the year as he struck out three and allowed one run on five hits in five innings of work. Senior RHP Mark Alexander and sophomore RHP Nick Admire each pitched two scoreless innings in relief, each allowing one hit.
Missouri and Chicago State will meet for the final game of the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The ZRG Radio Network (1580 KTGR in Columbia) will carry all of the Tigers' games with Tex Little and Luke Cassis providing the commentary. The broadcasts can also be heard online www.KTGR.com.
