LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Missouri track and field team completed competition at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Saturday. The meet, hosted by the University of Nebraska at their Bob Devaney Sports Center, featured many of the top teams in the nation. Juniors Amanda Bales (Bettendorf, Iowa) and Ryan Hampton (Liberty, Mo.) took second in their mile run events, and sophomore Laura Brandt (New Haven, Mo.) won the 600-yard run.
The meet featured ten men's or women's teams ranked in the Trackwire Top 25. Minnesota's men came into the unscored meet as the No. 5 team in the country. On the women's side the Tigers competed against No. 8 Florida State and No. 9 North Carolina. Big 12 schools, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Nebraska were also in attendance at the meet.
"With these schools at this meet it showcased some of the best teams and best athletes in the country," said Dr. Rick McGuire, Head Track and Field Coach at Missouri. "Outside of the NCAA Championships, this meet was the best in the country in terms of competition. Most events here were won by either national leaders or big conference leaders."
